Trauma, Grief & Major Life Transitions

Unexpected loss, traumatic experiences, or sudden life changes can leave lasting emotional imprints. Whether through death of a loved one, relationship loss, cultural displacement, or other life transitions, counselling helps clients process grief, integrate trauma memories, and rebuild meaning after change or loss. Some common symptoms include:

  1. Recurrent intrusive memories, nightmares, or flashbacks

  2. Avoidance of reminders of the loss or trauma

  3. Emotional numbness, shock, disbelief, or guilt

  4. Sudden waves of sadness, anger, or panic without clear triggers

  5. Trouble sleeping, hyper-vigilance, exaggerated startle response

  6. Difficulty concentrating or completing daily tasks

  7. Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities

  8. Physical symptoms (tight chest, nausea, muscle aches) linked to stress

  9. Feeling disconnected from life or one’s sense of self

  10. Loss of meaning or questioning faith, values, or identity after trauma
