Young Adult Development

Young adulthood (late teens through thirties) is a time of major identity, career and relational development: finishing school, starting work, establishing finances, forming adult friendships, perhaps choosing a partner, relocating, or becoming a parent. These milestones can bring confusion, anxiety, instability or transition-stress. We work with young adults to navigate growth, transitions and self-definition. Some common symptoms include:

  1. Anxiety or pressure around “what am I doing with my life?” or “should I be more advanced by now?”

  2. Depression or low mood linked to feeling behind peers, stuck or aimless

  3. Career/academic indecision: many options, fear of making the wrong choice

  4. Imposter syndrome: feeling like a fraud in career or adult life

  5. Financial stress, debt, housing instability, “adulting” overload

  6. Relationship/peer-friend shifts: old friends fade out, new roles, relocation

  7. Identity questions: “Who am I now?” after graduation/relocation/parenthood

  8. Difficulty managing independence: being away from home, financial dependence, family expectations

  9. Burn-out, overworking, poor self-care in pursuit of success

  10. Fear of failure, perfectionism, procrastination, avoidance
